Pioneers of Climate Science

Global War and Global Warming

Jim Eachus has a Ph.D. in theoretical physics and 38 years of experience as a software developer. He has studied climate change extensively and has concluded that it presents mankind with an unprecedented crisis. If Americans unite and lead the world by applying their energy and determination, it can be overcome. If not, the future of civilization and perhaps even the human race are at risk.

Jim's father, Dr. Joseph Eachus, was a mathematician. In the Second World War, he  was the US Navy's liaison to Bletchley Park, the British project north of London where they broke the German Enigma code. While Joe was overseas, Jim's mother, Ruth Porter Eachus, and her parents, Walter and Olive Porter, kept the home front.

The stories of how his family experienced the War form the framework of Jim's talk. The national experience of the war becomes a bridge to the issue of climate change.  At the same time, that national experience is full of lessons on what we MUST do now.
